Hi there, it’s me, Ashley. Happy New Year! You may remember me from former glories including Philly, NYC, Boston: Thanks for the coffee and Coffee on Broadway Market. I’m coming to you in this fresh new year with a fresh new newsletter.
Introducing The Mosaic.
What was previously known as Three-Quarters (a newsletter about coffee and coffee culture) is now The Mosaic. In truth, I was never wild about the old name or the rigid focus. The new name, complete with new branding, will cement my commitment to a newsletter about more than just coffee.
Naming a newsletter The Mosaic is one way to give myself a broad remit to write about anything. It could be seen as the ultimate generalist title to write about whatever springs to mind. But the mosaics that you might see in a museum in Athens or Rome or on the wall of a primary school playground aren’t never-ending. They are diverse and colourful but they do have an outer boundary. I will try and give the newsletter some boundaries too.
The Mosaic is about people, place, coffee and culture.
I’ll write about the physical spaces we inhabit and the people that inhabit them. I’ll write about the routines of creative people and the spaces they create in. I’ll write about how people define their culture and the culture of the places they live. And I’ll write about the coffees that are fueling them, too.
I’m aiming for a weekly newsletter again, so I’ll see you every Sunday if you fancy it? If you would rather not, you can, of course, unsubscribe. Though I think everyone should have a newsletter and Substack, from where this one is published, is a great platform. If you start a Substack, I promise I’ll subscribe to yours too. With social media going down the pan elsewhere, maybe it would be nice if we just all sent emails to each other every now and then.
HNY again and see you next week for The Mosaic proper.
